1000 cylinders on a 1100?
15 Oct 2006 13:49
I'm looking for spare cylinders & pistons for my 1100 so I can slowly have them ready when needed.I don't know if the stroke is different between the 1000 and 1100 or not. If the stroke is the same, would 1000 cylinders and pistons work on a 1100 bottom end?

YES, the 1000 'J' 998CC block and pistons fit just fine.

However, Regular non-J 1000 block will not fit. In other words if it says 1015 on it, you can not use it.

Thanks Jay. If I remember right, they changed in 81. I think my old 80 KZ1000 was the last year with 1015cc and kick start. Seems to be parts for 1000's quite often compared to 1100's and I probably won't notice much difference with a stock motor.

Hmmmmm, I looked at Z-1 and don't see any kits listed for the 1100. Lets see, an extra 70cc.....that would give me what? a extra 1/2 HP? Maybe I need seat belts with that kit. :side: :silly:

Look on the
Wiseco website
the 1170 kit comes as either 9.5:1 or 10.25:1 compression ratio. and if you want to resleeve your cylinder block, they have a 1262 kit, 10.25:1 comp.

Thanks for the link Scott. I may go that route for re-build #2 if my cylinders are still good enough to be bored.

no problem, to quote another members sig (not sure who right off the top of my head) "friends don't let friends ride stock bikes"
I cant see why your cylinders wouldnt be fine for an over bore. I doubt the bike would even run if the cylinders were worn out bigger than an over bore:woohoo: . the 750 cylinder block I bought to go to the 810 kit had some slight rust in the bores, but after they were punched out 3mm.. good as new!
