Colin...are You sure that the cam was actually seated in it's proper place, when You were tightening the bolts on that cap?
If You have the bike on the kickstand, the cam tends to slide over to that side, and the "locking" cam cap will grab the top edge of that part of the cam,and when You think You're in the safe zone,as far as torqueing,You WILL snap a cap because it won't seat properly.
SO...it might NOT be Your torque wrench,Bud...
Sandy- We were bench shimming on a flat, level surface before putting the head on the motor in the frame.
RonKz650 - The Clymer Manual called for 9 ft/lbs of torque on the cap bolts. It seems my new $250 torque wrench seemed to be acting up as we tried it afterwards on some other bolts in the garage and we couldn't get the wrench to break at even the 1 ft/lb setting.
I used the same wrench on my spring 810 rebuild and didn't have a problem with the settings and didn't overtorque any bolts. I am going to get a replacement bolt for my friend so we can finish the job tomorrown night. I just need to know the exact size and length. By the way, is anyone else having trouble looking up the parts diagrams on
www.buykawasaki.com?
Any help would be appreciated.
