Hi all, i was just given a 1980 kz750b twin. It looks to be complete, and well taken care of. I drained the oil tonight, looks really clean. I think its just been sitting for a while. My goal is to get it up and running for as little as possible. The coil and plug wires look to be trashed, is there a source for these? Also it looks like water got into the switches on the handle bars and they need to be replaced. Also need some other little things to get it running. any advice, or info or links for parts woul dbe greatly appritiated. thanks

The switches can be taken apart and cleaned.
I think a brand new Dyna coil is around $70, and that's a better deal than a 25 year old coil for $25, in my opinion anyway.

On the right side switch pod there is a place where it says something like "Lights, on off" and it looks like the knob is broken off, it's not, there is (or supposed to be) a block off plate for that switch.
Kawasaki use the same switch pods for the 76-80 750 twins, they just blocked off that switch for the 79-80 models.

General info:

If it looks like the one to the left (my avatar), it is a KZ750 "G", not a "B". B models were 76-79, G was 1980, M was 1982, and K was 1983 (belt drive).

I'm not being nitpicky, the differences are important. The 76-79 carb kit won't work on the 80 G model for instance. Lot's of other differences, most minor, a few major.

thanks for all the replys, im going to try to keep costs way down and just get it to run first. So i need to get ahold of a coil and wires, the dyna stuff looks nice, i couldnt find one for less than 150 bucks. I will probably throw some generic switches on it also.

You only need a single coil, and I think it's less than $70 at Z1 Enterprises

Any 3 ohm motorcycle dual output coil that you can mount will work.

For me, to clean/lubricate switches and lubricate small electric motors I use some stuff you can buy at the electronic supply house called De-Oxit. Radio Shack has something similiar I recall. Shoot it right into the switch..work it back and forth. Its amazing what it does. I would try that before I go spending lots of $$$ on new or ebayed ones . You may have to but why if you don't?:cheer:
