$700 for an 82 KZ1100? You realize there would be a waiting list of people here to jump on it at that price?

No, I don't think you paid to much for it :D :D

Easy solution Mike - you buy a second KZ1100 and ride both of them to 100,000 miles each. Also gives you a standby bike:laugh:

Mike, what did you pay for it? I love those.:)

Well I probably paid way too much in some eyes but I fell in love with it when I saw it and had to have it. I paid $700. I figure I can get most of my money back parting it out if it comes to that. I have a gut feeling she will be fine though. I'll be sure and post what I find wrong with it when I get it home this weekend.

Ummmmm. If you decide to sell it let me know. :woohoo:

I'm already thinking about that or at least a spare engine. ;)

Thanks for the link Steel. Yeah that is a sweet custom 1100. Nice price too considering all that has been done. Thats one thing that is great about the KZ's...you can "personalize" them to your liking. My 1000 had a few performance mods and also dressed out with bags and fairing, custom seat etc. I sure miss that bike but if one of us had to go, I'm glad it was the bike that was scraped and not me.

That'ts what I did Mike, and the toughest part was softening my wife up to realize that I needed 2 bikes while I negotiated price with the previous owner:laugh:

Mike, it seems you're fretting just a bit much. Spare engine or spare bike is fine, but I really doubt you'll need either for a long time. I wouldn't be worried about the engine so much as some of the other bits that tend to deteriorate over time especially sitting unused.

Give it plenty of good maintenance now that it is in your care and it will reward you with many miles of good riding. Use a high quality oil as oil is critical to cooling an aircooled engine. Oil filters are cheap enough at Walmart to warrant changing them at each oil change.

Enjoy!

Murphys corollary: Wrenching is the result of time spent riding.

Thanks folks for all the encouraging words. I do plan on cleaning the carbs, changing every fluid and filter, tires and plugs along with checking every electrical connection, cable and bearing before putting it on the road.I know how my luck is and if I skip checking one little thing that will be the thing that gives me a problem. After it's roadworthy then it will be time to personalize it. I don't plan to add alot of stuff. Just comfort items like a plexifairing, leather bags and a throttle lock along with some new grab-on grips

Man did you get taken. You could have bought a brand new BMW R90/S with sunburst paint, still in the crate, for $900. They are everywhere and go 200K miles without an oil change or new tires. I tripped over three of them at the local title pawn yesterday. Might not be such a good deal since the coupon for the free matching helmet has expired. If it will help you out, I've got $99 for that mangy old PC-800 scooter of yours. ;-)

Sounded suspiciously like a personal attack, so it was deleted by the "Mean Mod".
