I would go with an 1170-1200 big bore and a nice set of carbs and cams. Turbos are money pits ;)

all bikes are money pits, but they are fun money pits!hahahalot more drivable than carbed motor for same amount of horsepower.150hp carbed motor is gonna be a tempermental overheating beast.turbo on the other hand doesnt need high compression, big cams, bighead and a bunch of fancy stuff to make decent power and boost can be turned down to drive around on pump gas. :P 1327 bike with lots of compression,435 cams, big ported head,38 carbs good for around 140-150 hp

1197 turbo bike with mild head ,oversize valves, smaller cams.runs on pump gas with a little octane booster, makes more power at 9-10 pounds of boost than my 13:1 1327 motor in ltd or the 13:1 1197 that was in my z1 and is totally drivable and cheaper to build.

AFAIK sleeves for the 78mm pistons fit both 998 and 1089 J blocks and both require boring the block.

Jay???

You can do a 1260 in a stock GPZ block, as per the APE website. Not 100% sure if a 1000J block will take it. We have done a boat load of 1200 1000Js.

KZs will be leakers if you use a stock block.

Jay-
I've got both 998 and 1089 blocks on the bench up at the shop and will compare by measuring the next time I'm up there. They looked to be the same but a few mm difference on something that big will easily escape my eye. Especially with one black and one silver. Where might it leak? Around the base?
