[1981 KZ750 LTD]

NOW I AM READY TO GIVE UP!

I drained, uninstalled, and reinstalled everything.

> The main gasket was already properly seated on the filter plate
> No gouges/scoring seen anywhere on the filter plate
> Replaced the small gasket on the filter post (though the original seemed fine
> Thoroughly cleaned the filter housing on the motor, especially the rim that mates with the filter plate
> Checked for anything that looked liked it might be obstructed
> Only put in two quarts of oil
> CAREFULLY tightened the filter plate and oil drain bolts (finger tight and then until socket tight).

Within 10 seconds of the engine being on, oil just comes oozing from all over the filter plate.

What the hell could be going on?

There were no leaks before and I was able to unbolt everything by hand.

laythe filter plate on something flat by itself to see if its warped from overtightening,or maybe it has a crack in it.;)

This has been suggested ...

I have done a web search and the Fram CH6012 is supposed to be the right one.

Am I mistaken?

Thanks for the suggestion, but both gaskets (the plate and the post) are round and lay in a groove.

No way to double them.

Unless there's an old one stuck to the block. I would double check that.

Is this a twin?
My twin 750s take the 6014. My 400 takes a 6012.
If it's a twin did you replace the "figure 8" o-ring?
If it's not a twin, this all should be disregarded....

EDIT: Now that I think about, there wasn't a twin in '81... So nevermind...

Assuming you have the 4 cylinder then you got the right oil filter.

I scanned a schematic of the oil filter etc from my Haynes manual and intended to post it here but if I shrink it down to fit the page it loses definition. If you want it then send me a PM or email at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. and I'll email you it to you. Might help

No new info to offer other than what others have suggested (and that you may have gotten a bad filter -- it's happened). Any pix of where the leak is? If you don't have a digi camera let me know & I can take some pix for you.

Aw man ... it looked a bit too big (bulged as I attempted laying it in the track). But it seemed to fit in after tightening.

I can't believe I'm going to fish out the OLD o-ring from the pile of oil rags and try this ... AGAIN!
