I checked my book. I was wrong and waktaylor is correct. The clearance stated in the KZ1000 service manual is 0.05 to 0.10 mm. However 1979 supplement increased the clearance a max of 0.15 as I stated. However since this is a '78 KZ1000 the clearance should be 0.05 to 0.10.
I have several restored bikes along with a 2006 Goldwing with a sidecar. My wife has a 2019 Suzuki DR 650 for on and off road.

This is good clarification. for now Im gonna leave the valves alone. My machinist guy is 6 months behind, does anyone have a suggestion for a machinist? Birmingham AL area or Atlanta GA or mail in...

Decided to send head and cylinder to Pit Stop Performance. #2 rings were stuck. Very hard black crud had everything gummed up and nasty. Fingers crossed it wont need new valves. I took a peek at one exhaust valve and the sealing surface looked like the face of the moon

Verified that my compression gauge is ok. That kz1000 engine was just toast. All the rings were stuck in the pistons and the valves looked like shit.
The KZ650 I just picked up has about 150 across the board so I’m gonna say my gauge is ok.
