My engine off my 77' KZ1000 is in the process of being rebuilt ( Wiseco 1075 and head port ). Been tossing around the idea of taking it to another level by upgrading to Cams ( K410 ) and bigger carbs. Looking at Mikuni RS34 or 36's . Wanting to build a Good Street motor with great bottom end to mid-range, which is where the motor will be ran most of time.

Opinions on what Size RS's ?

I built my 1075 with stock cams for reliability and versatile range vm 26s just wasn't enough and the 34s really woke up the action. These are old bikes {Dinosaurs} So I went to suspension improvements as much as my wallet would allow my Girl friend to let me. You cant eat motorcycle parts and there will always always going to be a faster more agile high tec bikes to blow mine away. Its the nature of the beast. So I did upgrades and am more than happy for now,,, I do have the head milled incase I want to go with more radicle cams though. As is My 900 will trounce my 78 1000 Ltd any day of the week. Maybe my age keeps me modest

Try vm28s,29 smooth bores or BS34s. RS34s would be to big.

I would run the 36mm Flat Slides

I'm running 1075, street port and polish, and mild cams with RS 34. They may be a bit too big but this engine rips

I figure if Rs34 carbs are intended for race only kz750s they are fine for a street 1000

RS34 is the maximum you have to go for, RS 36 only if your cubic capacity is 1200-1300 ccm.
You will loose power on lower rev and torque without a ported head and bigger valves/valve lift/cams.

My cylinder head will be ported and flowed with slightly oversized valves. I'm tossing the idea whether to keep the "stock" cam or go with the K410.

So RS34's without cam and RS36's with cam upgrade ?

RS34 is the maximum you have to go for, RS 36 only if your cubic capacity is 1200-1300 ccm.
You will loose power and torque on lower rev without a ported head and bigger valves/valve lift/cams. In other words, big carbs = un-drivable bike = no fun.
You need a minimum of air velocity in the carb/intake ports (optimum 90-100 m/sec.) for a good performing engine! A bigger carb is suboptimal if any other engine parts are not fit to your carb setup, from inlet to outlet. In other words you have to go with the right carb with your engine environment.
Use the RS 34 if no 1200 ccm or more is projected in the near future.

So just to make sure I understand, RS 34's in my application whether I stay with the stock cam or upgrade to the 410 ?

Yes, the RS34 is a good starting point, everything else would be a waste of money.

36mm with ported head and cams fine do not buy into carb to big flat slides have a super good signal to them I have many 1075 running them.

I respect and appreciate Both of your opinions. I lean towards the RS34's only because I want the most low-end and mid-range performance increase and will never run anything bigger than the 1075 displacement. My engine builder say go with 36's but still not decided ?
