Dave,
WOW, bet that was a surprise for the rider when that happened! Holy cow!

Flames shot out at least 10 feet while our rider was going thru the ET lights. ( He won !! )

We were standing at the starting line and it was clearly visible

Good luck on your quest for parts and it sounds like you know who are your options to do your machining and labor

We are here to help

Dave....

They're made to stretch but I don't want to break one either. I bought HD ones from Z1E. The small cracks are normal as long as they don't go all the way to the top.

Kevin our pilot and bike owner took it better than expected.Winning the event sure helped LOL
Kevins Dad was a rich man and into fast cars and such. He sponsored our team so we had at least one spare motor as a backup and parts
for a third on hand normally.

I had moved on, but when someone woefully neglects to do the simplest of maintenance tasks and then tells the whole world, they need a kick in the rear end, maybe there will be less complacency in this gentleman's future now.

4/16 Update

Someone at APE has looked at pictures and indicated the head can likely be decked and checked. I may drive it up to them if I am able to in the next few weeks time permitting.
Also have obtained a decent looking kz1000 head for rebuild off ebay as plan B. Or may be plan A. Not sure yet. Will keep everyone posted as progress goes on.

When they say decked that must include welding to fill in the lost casting and make the deck(s) usable. Not to mention the head crack.

If costs were similar to getting a good used head and block, I would go with the unscarred replacements.

I agree; Am somewhat skeptical but we'll see. Either way I have a kz1000 head on the way with no visible damage or cracks based on pictures. Claimed to be in good condition with no stripped holes. We'll see.
