If extending with a hose I would run the end of the hose to the chain

Some run the hose into a catch can ( Beer can ) so not to drop any oil onto the road or drag strip.

Having no breather would be disastrous as the crankcase pressure needs to vent

Best to run hose past the leading face of the rear tire to prevent a loss in traction

Other options for an open nonrestrictive breather hose would be routing it to exit underneath or behind the bike.

Good Fortune! :)

Hey, don't bring old Meriden Triumphs into this filter "engineering" topic  - hell, they didn't even put oil filters on their bikes back then.... :silly: (Don't get me wrong - I would pay big bucks for a nice stock 650 / 750 Bonneville).

I think K&N would use that statement on everything they sell - all hype and glitter. In the end, I believe the description was meant to refer to the free breathing ability of their crank case filter, in that it would not restrict crank case ventilation and cause seal failures or excessive oil consumption. even under racing conditions. And nothing is as demanding on a machine as racing....

Please, boy's
For now, I strenuously prefer the little filter for the utter-simplicity of it, if/for no other reason. There is no oily mess to deal with, and if the filter-element should ever need cleaning, a subtle twist-lift, and its out for a quick wash, rinse and over-night dry!
I'd rather have the oil get back inside the engine instead of on the road or my back tire, or yours.

Besides, it just looks better. :)
