well lets see here.1-he is going to rering bike ,so the cylinder is being removed and while the cylinder is removed he will be spraying something down through top of motor to clean that part.2-he is also going to spray the motor out from the bottem side .3-he is going to remove the head and disassemble it as long as its off and clean/check it also.the oil changes were just an extra insurance policy to make sure that any thing he misses will get picked up.did we miss anything here?
Odd... you worry about flushing them out but then you say it isn't a problem... hmmmm, which is it?
Aluminum doesn't get "chewed up and spit out" it tends to lap under pressure. Do you want that to get in-between two surfaces that require a clearance tolerance? Not me. The bigger threat to long trouble free life is the larger micron stuff. You hope the filter gets it but it gets to ride a bit before that happens. Want to have it ride a while in the rings while if scores the walls for a while? Not me.
I think your "flush with cheap oil" procedure has been proved inadequate as the pan was still full of chips after he had drained it. Changing the oil is going to make you feel like you did something but the potential for debris in the engine causing a problem will still be there.
My statement of taking it out of the bike is so you can flush it better assembled if you are going the half-step method of assuring removal of the debris versus a complete tear down. Lots of folks were saying how lucky he was it didn't do any real damage but I didn't see where he had checked the cylinder walls yet.

Post edited by: KZ_Rage, at: 2006/07/14 23:53

I throw regular iron filings into the oil every five miles, will not waste carb cleaner on a rebuilt motor. under no circumstances will i use filters. If its not graveled, its not traveled. If it refuses to die i go to a shittier oil. And it runs forever unless Lucus or something fancy is used. Then it spins out the bearings while idling. I prefer to ride double with a fat chick traveling in thick sand in fifth gear say 30ish. Exaust pipe doubles as cig. lighter. Power is down, stinks like cooked petrol products, lots of grinding going on, i park in the woods and say hold me baby, i may done ssomething wrong. I have never bought a part without reason.

Anybody besides me old enough to remember the "twilight zone"? What happened to my thread? Was it something I said.
Have the block off, cylinders look good and are with in spec according to the bore gauge and micrometer. Hope to have enough time to get her back together this week, but work is making that look doubtful. Got to be done before Vintage Motorcycle Days at any rate.

Nothing that shouldn't have. When answers start coming from The Twilight Zone, it's only proper to stuff 'em right back up the interdimensional wormhole they came from...
Heavens no.
Now that's splendid news, CT! Glad to hear it, hope to run into you there...

16 Jul 2006 20:31Yesssssss little mousegirl. If the transporters were working we could beam this warped drive unit right into CTSZ1's bike! He could actually go back in time to last years Vintage Motorcycle Days or on to next years. Hey look at those stupid pointed ears on this freekazoid! Reminds me of the time I was on a United Flight and this green goblin started ripping the wing apart!! CREEEPPPYYY!!!
