Pull choke out, start, no blipping of the throttle.
when RPM starts to climb over where ever it started at, push in half way.
when idle starts to climb a bit from where ever that is, push in, if it idles smooth, zoom zoom
or pull out choke to almost half way.
When its warm full choke idle is lower than when its 40 out, hence the vague instructions.

I have the exact same bike and that sounds about right for cooler temps. Mine is usually ready to run after a minute or so when its warm out but this time of year these old bikes can be a little cold blooded.

Great to hear all the input here. Mine is about the same as describe above. Always wondered how common the "cold collard" thing was.

I always though that the best way to warm an engine was to run it.

just let it warm up
then ride it
These bikes where designed to run warm
any internal combustion engine is
efi just complicates life buy letting a machine do what you should know how to do
I can fix a carb
I can shoot a computer
then ride it

Just curious how long does it take to warm up. When I start it I use full choke fires off instantly. Then right away go to half and in about 5 min its ready with no hesitation. Only thing I havent done is have the carbs synced. I have put about 200 miles on it and running great. Is this warm up time normal for this bike or do i need to adjust the pilot screws out a little more. I am at 1 1/4 turns wich is what the manual says. Thanks

5 minutes running on the enrichener is too long in normal riding temperatures. It's a great way to blue the header pipes.
If your bike is taking that long to warm up, the pilot circuits are lean. It does't matter if it's Pod filters or stock air box.
Full Choke to start a stone cold engine is normal for the stock CV carburetors, stock VM carburetors or VM29's.

43 is a tad chilly so you're not too far off. When summer hits you may not even notice a problem. Run some sea foam in your gas for a while and see if it gets better over time.
