What engines will bolt straight in...
16 May 2006 19:10
I have recently bought a KZ 650 c2 to do up and im wondering about the clearance in the frame, mountings and chain alignment for installing another possibly larger lump as mine seems to need a good re-build... can anyone tell me if any other Kawasaki motors will go straight in ?
Thanks for any "pearls" you could put my way.

The only "drop in" engine that will go in a 650 is a 750 4cyl. I did it to mine, but I hadnt ridden it ever as a 650. There really arent any issues at all other than the regulator/rectifer, charging (on some) and electronic ignition.
I started with a 77 650B and then when it was close to being done, I came across 3/4 of a 1980 750 LTD. I bought it all thinking I was just going to use the rear wheel, exhaust, and front calipers. In one quick swap I put the 750 into the 650s frame. Then the wiring took me a little work, only because I am a cheapskate and didnt want to start from scratch on the harness, and I had the 650s wiring mostly done when the 750 arrived.

Cheers for the insight and the link, ive been thinking about the cats-eye tail light for mine and now i know how it looks.
Unfortunately now im wondering weather the GpZ 750 would go in with or without the shoe-horn.

Yep, GPz750 (83-85 anyway) is pretty much a bolt in, have to trim the sprocket cover a little, and deal with the wiring.

Hey Unhinged. There is a member on kzr that is currently giving his 650 a 1000 cc heart transplant. His name is sbjones. Do a search in the archives and you can get in touch with him. I am pretty sure he had a recent posting in the past few weeks.
