Yeah, Chance, "pull" feels good - could see plate moving when I had cover off. Could only get 4 plates (w/their disks) off. I think there are 9(?). Just got some more fuel - gonna fire 'er up and see if the rest will break loose. Will report back. Thanks again everybody!

Remove the tank. There should be a two-wire connector under there somewhere where the wires come down from the left handlebar. You can disconnect that, then with a small length of wire, jump the two wires on the engine-side connector. You can just tape it up and leave it that way if you want. Then you won't have to pull in the clutch (or ground the wires on the handlebar) when you want to start it.
But just make sure you are in neutral!

Kilgore, I'd love to go riding if we can get some decent weather on a Saturday.
I did get in a ride last Saturday during a brief break in the weather. Went up along the Clackamas river.

With the bike on its side stand, pull off the clutch cover.
Remove the clutch spring bolts.
Remove the spring plate.
Remove the clutch pack (all the discs) as one.
Pry them apart with a small plastic knife.
Clean them individually in a pan with new oil and a soft brush.
Use new gasket/rtv gasket maker. If you must use old gasket, I've had luck with using brake cleaner on both the old gasket and the surfaces, and letting them dry completely before assembly.
90 inch-pounds on bolts.
Installation is reverse of removal.
A very quick and easy process that can be done in about 20 mins with some experience.
Good luck!

Thanks everybody. Busted clutch apart. Problem seems to be clutch lockout switch, which I disabled years ago. Have to start her touching both wires to handlebars, but now wires seem to have to be grounded to shift into gear?!?
