Lots of great info Thanks!
I may try to make me one of those tools.
I just got finished doing a valve check so i'll need to get some shims. On the intake 1,4 couldn't get a .0015 under it and 2 and 3 I could get a .002 under. On the exhaust I couldn't get a .0015 under them. So she's tight! I know the manual says optimal clearance should be around .004. I think. What do you guys suggest?

Valve adjust, then comp. chk. Leakdown is great dio tool, but expensive. if valve adjust brings comp. back to snuff, ride on. if not, a leakdown will tell you where you'll be spending money.and how much. luck G

I'll see if I can get a shim kit from Z1E. Great guys! Then i'll do a comp check. Still wondering about the ticking though..
I'll post numbers when i'm finished.

the tick could have been from the air leak at the exhaust??

Might have little or no combustion going on in #1 cylinder, and running mostly on just the other three cylinders without realizing it. Perhaps due to the insufficient valve clearances.
Large KZ's can get alone pretty good on just three cylinders (and still outrun the Harleys). What appears to be oil might actually be a goop mixture of fuel, oil and carbon.
Would install brand new NGKB8ES spark plugs, and brand new copper exhaust gaskets (to likely stop the ticking as noted by mark1122).
Good Luck!
... looked into the exhaust ports they are all carboned up but the #1 also had wet oil around where the valve comes through. Seal?....

Thanks! I can't wait!
I had a 66 Fairlane that I wanted to hotrod out but I enjoy tinkering on kz's more so I sold it. Motorcycles are much more easier to deal with such as room to store. I hope to have many some day.
Thanks
