1979 RD400F Daytona shakedown ride
03 Jul 2013 12:33
Not the first ride, but still doing minor tweaks etc.
My buddy got it for a song. Someone had it stored, partially disassembled, for 20 years. He just wanted it gone.
My buddy rebuilt the carbs, etc., the usual stuff, and had to turn the head around. Someone had the head reversed for some reason. I don't think it ever ran like that, though.
We are just riding to work, so nothing real exciting.

The RD was a great bike. My dad had a 1972 R5, then the 1974 RD350 which was the first street bike I ever rode, my uncle had a 1971 R5, my cousin a 1975 RD350 bought on closeout brand new for $900. They were cool and good runners too. Good looking. They would outrun the Kawasaki triples of like displacement by a large bit.

321,000 miles on KZ's that I can remember. Not going to see any more.

Cool video and I like the bike, looks in good shape. I have always wanted a daytona special but they seem to go for too much here, 3500-5k!
