Interesting. I wonder if they have a way to include alcohol in the data.

It's pretty high (27% in 2006). Here's some info (near the bottom of page in link). Ed

Booze and bikes are a pretty dangerous combo.

Then if you really have a death wish , try splitting lanes too :woohoo:
I learned to leave my bike in Bakersfield and drive my Big Ass Pickup truck to there instead.

These numbers don't seem to factor in percent of fatalities related to number of riders on the road. The US population as a whole grew 16% between 1994 and 2010. It also aged (more old people, fewer babies) so that means the number of riders probably grew by more than 16%.
Just the number of fatalities doesn't mean much without knowing how many people were on the road.

In the link I provided they use deaths per 100 million Vehicle Miles Traveled (VMT) and Deaths per 10,000 Registered Motorcycles as measures. Using those the study shows a marked increase in motorcycle related deaths even when taking the increase in the number of bikes and miles ridden into account.

I guess the statistics can be summed up this way. If you are the guy in picture below, do not go speeding around corners in the dark on your bike as this could reduce your chances of making it home in one piece.
