Relative to walking or riding a bicycle for the past two years...It a rocket ship. This bike blew my expectations out of the water. As for performance, I couldn't imagine this being called slow...I found the APE website and you can make it a beast if you do some investing. Its so solid and simple. makes me wonder why they quit making them...

I actually heard why they quit making them. The tooling they used for the engines wore out so they gave it a fair well because the price to replace the tooling was so high. That is a most honest and noble way to end a legacy in my opinion.

my Kz runs great when the engine is wound up or out....but roll in 4th gear around 40 mph and WOT and its a dog. On a low rpm and a lot of gear really exposes the KZ and its power. I have road with and run newer bikes and if you run you mouth to these guys it would be fruitless and embarrassing.

I have not been scared or has the hair on the back of my neck been raised by my KZ at all....it is very predictable and novice bike as a performance platform compared to other bikes I have owned over the years. I didn’t do my KZ build as a all in performance bike...just a nice running KZ. It has run low 11's in qtr mile.

I had a GSXR 750 and that bike could get away from you....front tire in the air, rear tire all over the place...it was worked a bit inside - out but no compare to a KZ....two different birds. This bike would eat and chit out my KZ in every aspect.

I had a highly built FJ-1200 now that bike scarred the chit out of you....how I didn’t die on that bike was a ???? It was a bad ass bike for its day....late 80's I really think the KZ holds up very good for 30+ years...plus you can still work on them with wrenches....

Nah, my 1000s never felt like they would flatten your eyeballs with speed or brute power either. But, if it is your first go at a big bike getting off a wienie bike, yah, it will get up and haul the mail.
Low elevens isn't anything to sneeze at, 4theKZ. Good solid #s.
My Z1-R was in the solid mid-high 11 second range back in the mid 80s. For the life of me, it really felt a good bit stronger than my present KZ1000. I can account that for riding newer bikes and just being older and more experienced.
I have a couple bikes that will set you free. One is an '02 ZRX1200 with a Muzzy's big bore kit and ZZR12 cams. It's a single digit bike with the right rider on board. :cheer:

Someone once told me to marry that motorcycle I was riding ......there's times I wish I hadda listened .

Those are sweet bikes, I want those fairings! Im glad to hear a consistent message about these KZ's. I got stopped by three people today asking about it as well as talking about bikes with them. It is a sweet feel of community when a stranger talks to you in Downtown Seattle.

...my fairings are NOT from seattle, or that company,..they are complete made and re-created by myself!
so, if you´re would live in Germany, it would be easy to get one.....otherway,..for those, who really want an fairing like that, it will give everytime a solution ;)

At this time, i am going to build up another MadMax-bike: The blue/silver bike of " Bubba Zanetti", based up on an Z1000 A1 from `77,...like my 2 other bikes you´ve seen above
