what is this bike worth?

i found this beauty and got all giddy and excited...but i'm not sure if what he is asking is fair - he wants $5,200 for it.

the bike looks mint, but the price seems a bit high. what do you guys think? what would you pay for it?

I have always said if its what you want and you can afford it then its a good deal

now with that said since its not a new vehicle or restored by a famous restoration shop you have to always be suspect of "like mint condition" and paeoples ads the general public can say pretty much whatever they want in an ad. Go look at it in person if the frame has been powdercoated the wiring harness has been removed engice etc.. chack out the quality of the work then offer half and work up from there if its what you want

i hear you! and i agree that a good deal is a state of mind. however, if the bike stacks up in person, i'm just wondering if the guy is even in the ballpark on price just so i can be confident in my negotiating. thanks!

NADA says excellent condition 3185.00 but I question the validity of there values on classic vehicles but your insurance company will definately stick with their value should it be stolen or totalled

Tough call. But $5,200 seems a little high. But it depends on its history (how many new parts). Was the engine recently rebuilt, and by whom? Here an example for $4000.00 obo.: tampa.craigslist.org/hil/mcy/3192232105.html . Same ???? marks on this one as the one you are looking at. The example I give may not be as nice one you are interested in. Yours seems to be closer to original, which adds value. Three thousand would be a steel, if you can get it for that. Maybe even $4000.00. Five thousand two hundred, is not a great deal. It may be a fair deal for your area. Hard to know. At that price you should have many options out there for that amount of buying power. With regards to KZ's in that year range that is.

I definitely need some more info on the bike, and I FOR SURE would need to go take a look and talk with the guy to make an accurate assessment. But judging from the post alone, I don't think the engine has been rebuilt or anything. I emailed the guy with a bunch of questions, so we'll see...but my gut tells me he's asking about 2K too high. If I went to look at it and everything checked out, I like the idea of offering half and working from there.

Try going to redlinecycle.com and click 'used motorcycle sales.' Then click 'For a list of bikes previously sold at REDLINE.'

Look at the similar year and prices, mileage, etc. and decide for yourself what you'd pay.

It's like looking at 'comps' if you were buying a house. Past sale prices are a good place to start.

I own this bike and I bought it last 2 years ago. I don't remember the exact price but it might be a about $3500, I guess. The same model and design. I think today the price is near about $3000 to $3200. I don't think it is more than this price.

What are you trying to say? Is this your bike???? Are you offering it for $3000? DIBS @ $2500! :whistle: :evil:
2 years ago, KZ prices were a good bit different than they are now. $2500 would buy you a super nice bike. I'd say that bike would go for between 2-4k.
ram has it as close to right as anyone here. If you're comfortable with the price, then it is a bargain. If you can't afford it, then keep shopping.
The suggestion to study past sales is right in line also. Good call KZ1000.
The bike is immaculate. Not a rare bike, but in rare condition. It would be worth more with the original exhaust on it.

I think the asking price is to high....you need to check comps, this is what like bikes sold for in the past...judging the high and low sales. With its age and what is out there its hard to do if your in a rush. I have never made a bad buy when the time and effort was put forward on the buy...on the other hand, I have purchased on impulse and been very disappointed and made huge mistakes. If you purchase this bike for that number....any money you put in it will never be seen again....you will have priced the bike out of the market. SLOW DOWN AND USE THAT HEAD OF YOURS!!!! bikes come up for sale all the time, maybe this just might not be the one. Impulse buys are a mistake....
