talk him down to $450 or $500. anything like that I've found has topped a grand around here. not really all that bad looking, and speaking as a car mechanic I can say compression is best tested until the gauge stops climbing, thats it. if you're kicking it, the motor might not be spinning fast enough or rings need to be oiled

i paid 700 for my basket case with good compression. it depends on what you want to do with the bike. sometimes you pay a little more just for nostalgia or love of old machinery.

X a frigging bunch! Redline sells used stuff, just have to ask for it. Even if it's totally screwed you can get $500 parting the motor.
