I had nothing to do with this and I can't tell you who did. These are from a known good combo installed into a heavyer bike without richening up the mixture to compensate for the added load you can see the result. Check out the heat range on the plug! 1500cc KZ motor

The custom aluminum airbox with the cylindrical K&N filter on the 900 is downright stunning!

That would be the complete opposite of my advice. I lost two turbos and a crank to synthetic oils. I've never had a problem with mineral oil in my 750s and we use mineral oil in Storm too.

I don't think it detonated, it looks like high EGT, lean, did it. See how it started near the exaust port. Probably started near half track and once that piston started melting did the damage very fast. Imagine all that aluminum stuck to the turbine wheel, very expensive lesson.

Running alcohol can be accomplished with any motor... it's nothing new and has been around in racing applications for a long time. I would not recommend trying to get it to run properly on the road at all because of a lot of factors... it is best utilized on the track in short duration events.

The factors that prevent it from being run on the road effectively :

Fuel economy
Cylinder wash down
Oil contamination
Corrosive nature of the fuel

It runs best when its fuel injected in a high compression motor with a lot of ignition lead - these are also some factors preventing its effective use on street ridden motorcycles.

I have not had any issues with seal swell because I purge my fuel system after each use then flush with lubricant... if you want your equipment to last this has to be done as soon as its parked - you really have to love wrenching on your stuff to even think about doing this conversion.

We use a low cost straight weight oil and dump it after the days running and from what I have seen that alcohol will not seperate from the oil within 6-8 months... even the oil trapped up in the cylinder head has alcohol in it.

We save the oil and reuse it in the lawnmower and snow blower... pit bike, etc.
