I'm almost ashamed to say that I just added my KZ1000 to my insurance policy as a second bike for $55/year for liability.

I probably fall into the cheapest group these days since I'm 34, married, took the MSF, and have no points on my license.

Damn you guys in Canada are getting hosed on those prices.

I pay $15 a month for full coverage on my 1000. But, like testa, I'm getting old and they think we're less likely to do dumb shit.;)

Thanks goes to all for hte advice. I guess I will just call around till I find a good price. I cant add my motorcycle onto a car insurance until I have had my car insurance for atleast two years, And I have only had it a year.. So long story short I don't get any discounts whatsoever..

But you are right, The insurance prices are crazy, and you def should be able to pay monthly..

I thought I'd throw in on this. I go through Progressive and pay $85/year, which basically only covers the damage I do to others and damage to my property if someone else is underinsured.

I'll add a question here, too: does anyone have coverage for mechanical breakdown? I'm about to ride to SF from Seattle and it would sure be nice to have coverage in case I didn't built it up quite right. Does such insurance even exist?

I'm about the same, but changes in the insurance laws here supposedly caused a jump from ~$70 to ~$100/year. But still, for full coverage, I can't complain, although I don't expect them to pay me much if I total the bike.

Yeah man, try and get the minimum insurance you can. I paid $1000 for my 440 LTD and decided if it gets in a wreck, screw it. Id rather buy another $1000 bike than pay too much in insurance just to have the thing totaled in one wreck.

Granted, i live in DC where you cant just get liability so i had to get some additional coverages. My record is ok and im 30, i paid $220 for the year through Geico.

With most insurance companies you just have to pay what they want. The best way to approach this is to bend over and spell RUN, say it letter for letter. Youth has it's cost.

Try Progressive. 95 bucks a year for the Kawi and an additional 55 for the Yamaha.Of course Im older than dirt with a clean driving record and a MSC under my belt,so that helps.bj

I pay $196 a year through Progressive for my '76 KZ900. I have decent liability coverage ($50k person/$100k accident), $4k coverage for comp and collision (yes I do) and no annual mileage limit.

I'm a 23 year old single male, member of the AMA, have a motorcycle license, been riding for 4 years, no accidents or violations and have taken the MSF Basic Rider course. Also, I've been a Progressive customer for a few years so I get another small discount for that.

I caution you against getting minimum coverage. Not to protect the bike, bikes are cheap, but rather to protect you. A pristine nut and bolt restoration of a Z1 that cost you $15,000 is dirt cheap compared to $150,000 of life-flight/ER/medical/therapy bills. You might have the same bike handling skills as Evel Knievel, but that won't matter when some princess 16 year old doesn't check her blind spots at 80 mph.

All insurance is a state mandated waste of money. You spend your money and you get your registration. Now if you want some coverage we need to talk about how deep your pockets are and how MEAN your attorney is. There ain't no body on your side unless you buy him and I ain't talking premiums.
