Yeah the the big 4 produced a lot of bikes in the '80 with 16" fronts but the tire makers switched to 17" when the factories did and that left little choice in a sporting 16" tire.
Bridgestone BT45 in a 16" size is one that's still available.
actually i found that quite a few sport bikes from the mid80's to early 90's used the 16 inch front wheel the late 80's to early 90's 1100 katana's fj1100's ninja 600 and i'm sure a few more also a lot of the honda sportbikes from that time

My father has an 84 Nighthawk S which has a 16" BT45 Bridgestone on the front. BT45 matching rear as well, it handles quite nicely actually. I've never found it to be twitchy or nervous at all. It's more confidence inspiring than my KZ750L4 with the 19" front...I know we all love our KZ's but hey lets face it, they handle like dump trucks. Super stable in a straight line but the damn thing wants to keep going straight too LOL. The Nighthawk turns in crisp with the 16.
And I found that in europe they sold the GPz900 right into the 90's unlike here where they ditched it in favour of the 1000R. One of the upgrades done to keep it in the lineup so long over there was.....17's
A wheel swap away from modern sticky rubber. Far less involved than my current project.

Been awhile, but I did find a GPz900, picked it up Thursday.
I got a factory service manual with it, as well as service history records dating back 15+ years. It has had the following in the last year: Fork seals, caliper service/pads, chain and chain wheels, carbs cleaned, tune up, all fluids flushed = brake, clutch, coolant, oil/filter. Runs like a scalded cat :woohoo:
Big leap forward for me, liquid cooled, 16 valve, single shock...welcome me to the 80's

I miss my 900 Ninja.... great bike. If it's as mechanically sound as it's looks, you'll like it a lot.
Nice rack of carbs will wake that motor right up

I would have killed for the Ninja back in 1984. That paint has to go though.
321,000 miles on KZ's that I can remember. Not going to see any more.

Thanks for the compliments on the bike guy's
I'm partial to the 85 Black/Red paint scheem but I've been looking for well over a year for a GPz in good mechanical as well as cosmetic condition with ZERO luck. They just dont exist in my price range...found a real nice original 85 that was cosmeticaly mint...damn thing needed $2000 in mechanical repair to get road worthy. I can live with the green, although if I can gather up all the bodywork in the Black/Red I'll be switching it up...may take me years to find all the pieces, I'd never bother to repaint the current bodywork. There are no cracks or repairs in this set, its quite nice considering the repaint.
