Tail storage or a tank bag. Usually the tank bag.

Just playing devils advocate here, but has anyone had their insurance card or registration stolen from their bike? I keep my insurance card in my wallet. Identity theft is big business these days.

On my first bike, a 650 special, I didn't have a place to stash my registration. I got a 6" piece of 1" PVC nipple threaded on both ends. Put the paperwork in there, capped each end and zip tied it to the top subframe tube under the seat. Stayed dry and worked like a charm ;)

OP here. The bike has been bobbed and has a solo seat, so there's no where under the seat to stash it. My insurance co. uses legal size paper as proof of registration, as does the registration, so even folded, they are too big to stash in my wallet.

What is a "tank bag"?

I always where a jacket when I ride so it stays in the outside chest pocket. Then if you get pulled over you don't have to get off the bike and open the seat.

I got a ziplock type fishing license holder from Wal Mart and secured it with some velcro in my tail section just behind my seat. It's been there for about a year and a half with no problems.

Does your bike have side covers? If so, perhaps you could secure some sort of plastic pouch such as the fishing license deal that dejavoodo41 mentioned. And secure the side covers to the bike: others have done it by drilling holes in the mounting tabs, then inserting a hitch pin or something so they stay in place.

For ideas search ebbaayy for: document holder or document case. Or document tray. Or storage case, etc. There's a velcroed clear pouch for Harley-Davidsons that you might be able to attach to the back side of a side cover.
