I really like my modular helmet. It has almost the strength of a full face helmet, but you just flip up the face and you can talk or take a drink without removing it. HJC makes some really nice ones.

Looks pretty much unanimous for full face helmets
I'm another one who wouldn't have a face today without a full face helmet

I high sided in 1987 and promptly landed on my face so I've been a full face guy ever since. Last summer I was lucky enough to have a bird hit me in the head at about 75 MPH. I'm not going to lie it hurt but I am convinced that had I not had a full face helmet I wouldn't have been able to keep control of my bike and if I wouldn't have had a helmet I'm sure that if the blow to my head didn't kill me being knocked off my bike at that speed probably would have. That helmet was a Bell and was a pretty decent helmet for the 2 years that I had it. I recently picked up a HJC CL15 at Cycle Gear for $69.99. It is both Snell and DOT certified, fits much better than my other one and so far I absolutely love it.

Any of you folks read the anti-snell articles on the inter-web? LIke anything else take them with a grain of salt, that said those articles have me convinced; my next lid will be a euro standard/ dot helmet. I will only wear a snell helmet from now on if it is also ece 22-15 approved...

Ray, Cheap advise, Buy a lid that's comfortable. bear in mind, that with use, the padding is going to compress. so a little snug is good...with a full faced helmet, after donning, you should still feel contact at top of head. Too small will ride up.different Man's make different liners for different shaped heads, grab helmet & try to rotate head from side to side,@ 1 Inch is opt.(at tip of nose) Beware of hard spots at forehead, contact/pressure on ears. cheek pads which smoosh your mouth, contact w/ nose, Face shields w/distortion/cloudy clarity. graphic's you'd like to hide... in short, buy a hat you want to wear.. asside from the safety aspect, a good feeling helmet is one you'll want to wear, and increase your' pleasure while riding. after all these, the seal of shield, (wind noise) and weight, are factors. luck, have fun G

I crashed one time and hit the side of my head on the ground so hard I cracked the helmet in half through the chin bar. Had I not been wearing a full face I would have been hamburgered, best case; worst case, dead. Find a full face that's comfortable and buy it, regardless of whether required by law or not

I agree with everyone else. I have some kind of cheap thing I got from DK, but it's full face and DOT certified. It works, and just think, if a bee hits you in the face at 100mph it'll go right through.....

Embarrassing to say, but... When I was 15, I fell off a bike in my driveway with a Generic Store Special, DOT certified helmet, and it smashed. I mean SMASHED.
I wasnt even moving. Could you imagine at speed...
DOT means it can withstand a single fall. FALL. Not smack into a guardrail, or pole, or vehicle, etc...
SNELL all the way, and yes. They test for all the scary stuff that really happens.
AS for hlaf-helmets, are you #^%&*@! NUTS, or just plain stupid... or HD follower wanna-bee?
I've seen the entire bottom half of a mans face mangled in one of those.

Simpson, Simpson and nothing but Simpson. If it is good enough for NHRA and NASCar. it is good enough for me. I would own nothing els. Removable and washable liners and other fantastic features.
