Their buyer protection is worthless.

I've had over 100 transactions through ebay, and only one bad deal.
Paid for the item through Paypal, but never recieved it.
Have my only negative feedback from this seller, supposedly sending a message (which I never recieved) asking for my mailing address (which is included automatically in the transaction).
I went through Ebay's procedure to rectify the situation, but in the end lost my money.
Paypal was of no help either.
This made me stop buying through ebay for a while, but eventually I started again.

I just got off the phone with paypal and they told me the seller changed the email on the account and it is unconfirmed. I was told to contact the seller and request that they rectify the problem with the email to get it confirmed.

The seller said in the ad he accepts paypal but would rather have a check or money order, I used paypal.

Now back to the bidders. I snipe all my auctions that are not a buy it now. When I snipe, my high bid amount determines if I win or not. If my high bid is less than whomever I am bidding against they win. Nothing unethical about this. I snipe so I do not get caught in a bidding frenzy. I enter my max amount that I am willing to pay and if I get outbid so be it.

Now on this particular auction there were no bids with 4 hours left. I set my snipe and went on about my business.

This is what is confusing to me....When I looked at the bid history after the auction I noticed three bids were cancelled, all three were a day after the bid was submitted and days before the end of the auction, which is why with 4 hours to go it showed no bids.

Just before the end of the auction one of the bidders that had been cancelled bid again raising the price substantially, then another sniper came in and his snipe was based on the raised price from bid #1, My snipe had a higher max bid than sniper #1 so I won. Since it was towards the end of the auction the seller did not have time to cancel the original bid so it jacked the price at the end. If the seller cancelled bids from not enough feedback as was clearly stated should this bid be legal.

In the end I won the item at what was my max amount so I am not bitching. Just thinking it should have been cheaper playing by the rules that the seller put in place.

Does anyone else snipe or am I an asshole for sniping because I don't want to have a bidding war?

P.S. I sniped a local KZ650 roller last night for $10.50 thats less than a twelve pack of Bud Light. All I needed was a clutch cover and I got a whole bike instead.

Hi Kawickrice
I don't think that anyone would think that you are an asshole for sniping- I reckon most folks do it. It is a good thing if you are buying as you can put in the maximum price that you are prepared to pay and then leave it alone rather that getting dragged in to some bidding war. If you win you are happy and if you lose then it sold for more than you were prepared to pay.
It is slightly different as a seller because you can have 90 plus guys watching your item with no actual bids and then everyone piles in at the end. Can't have it both ways I suppose.

I snipe sometimes.
Depends on the item.
I will usually start with a bid, then prepare a snipe with my highest bid.

How about some pictures or a link of this $10.50 kz650 roller.

I was watching a clutch cover for $14.95 when I saw the whole bike for less and its 7 miles from my house so it was a no brainer. I have bought from the guy in the past and picked up the part in person. He has a storage space and he will strip the bikes of everything except the wheels that way he does not have to drag frames and motors around on the floor.

Is that for real (KZ650)... I mean truly, a rolling frame doesn't usually include the motor so at that ridiculously low price something on that bike is worth it...

Hell, I don't even have a 650 but for that price I'd get it if it was close enough in driving distance....

And to think, last year we saw two sets of 29mm smoothies go for over $1k....

They should call that Insane-Bay.com

Ah well, so far so good for me using them but it is a gamble....
