Really? I had heard that the old Vmax's were much faster than this new one and that the new one didn't have any real usable torque and that they actually were slower. Well, I guess that last part was true, it seems like a blast! I love sliding that rear wheel all over hell and back, especially around corners. Gotta ride both of them though before I can make any real enlightened opinion of my own. Wow. What a crazy bike. The equivilent of the Dodge Viper. I hear those cars are a beast to handle on the track.

I actually drove a new one, Jesus H Friggin Christ those bikes are nuts. I owned an older one and the new one has been put on some laboratory grade steroids. Way to unweildy to be a sport bike, and much heavier than the old one. Still way too much fun to be legal though. You roll the throttle on hard and the back end goes all over hell on you, and then when it hooks up the front wheel starts to jump, then ist time to shift, and the same shit happens all over again.

For all its might and heft the new V-max is not quite the hyperbike it could be. I couldn't really tell you if it is any faster than the old one, to me it felt heavy and is lumbaring bastard at slow speeds. The 1998 v-max I had would wind out about 140mph I don't think the new bike will be any faster, its not meant to be either. With the v-max its not about how fast it can go, it's about how fast it goes fast. Its a drag/muscle bike and it does that well. The new tourqe curve is diffent than the old bike, in fact I liked the old engine better because with the v-power it kind behaved like a two stroke and kicked very hard when it got in the powerband. The complexity of the new bike bothers me a bit. Service wise it looks a bit difficult. I think it is beautiful though. The single piece machined aluminum air intake runners are a thing to behold. For $18,000 its not as good dollar per dollar as the old bike by any measns. I still want one.
If I knew what I was doing all the time life wouldn't be any fun.

dosen't interest me in the least if they were serious about performance with the new v-max they would have made it chain drive like all the real go fast v-maxs have been converted to.

it is all poser props....you get a good rider on just about any modern bike and he's gonna be able lay down a controlled acceleration and also not need a rear tire every paycheck...although it is just kinda nice overkill looks wise...i bet folks would have a hard time catching up to it on a ride ...but in a ,i'll meet you in the next town it'd just be overkill.....i'd feel silly sitting at a stop sign on it...like feel kinda like i had a piece of tape on my back...small pee-pee on board....

there was also an rc30 that the gentleman..cause he was one....had started a little side buiness in his later yrs by making one off rc-30...rc-45 ..parts...hand built carbon fiber tanks, tails, top trees, and unobtainium ,little goodies...he claimed it wheighed 305...and he let us all take turns sitting on it....standing up with the bike between your legs ...you could toss it side to side and stop the toss with just your legs...thats what a 140 hp 305 pound bike feels like...old school iron hrc disks and monoblock one piece billet hand made grabbers....one finger dbl clicker instant bite brakes....ect.......even yianni the drag bike guy was all smiles sitting on it....then we're up in the corkscrew watching rossi and stoner qualifying(bumping bikes) on sat morn and here comes the guy "ron" we musta seen him 10 times that weekend....what a cool dude and one of a kind bike....
