i've heard the reliability thing a lot too...and then i see the same motor in cop bikes for 25 yrs or so,so figure i can get motors forever and they are always poping up here in ca. like every major city has a c-list cop 1000j for 8-1500......they look cool and have the muzzy/kawi inspired frames and the elr look...the j's i see state side have this tank for the most part ( pic below)

All those pictures except the brochure picture towards the top are European models. We didn't have the KZ1000J with the GPZ1100 style tank in the USA. My dad had a new 81 KZ1000J and it was fast vs, the old model, but reliability stunk. That's probably the reason not many of them around. Few survived the teething period.

So when you said the reliability sucks, what were the common problems? So I know what to look out for in the future.

Here is a pic of my 1982. I've had it for a year now and have not had any major issues. Love the way it looks and scoots.

Thanks Fozzie. Not sure what the bars are (I assume they are stock but don't know for sure). No vibration problems with the mirrors at all and they are Emglo cheapies.

I see gauges on e-bay fairly often although they usually need some sort of refurbishing.
