Bike for sale? Good Deal or not?
16 Aug 2009 21:39 - 16 Aug 2009 22:54
Its not a Kawasaki but I think the next best thing. Is it a good deal? 1983 Honda gullwing or goldwing 1100 full dress low mileage with TITLE been setting a few years not currently running. for $400.00 ? The guy bought it with two other bikes as a package deal I have no pictures. Its about 160 miles from were I live, I thought it would be like my second (car)Bike. Then I would have my cadillac for touring and my sports(car)Bike KZ650 for everyday cruising. I think RONKZ650 has one. What do you think? I know its not much information to get an Idea. But if its complete and the engine/tranny is good then????????

Could be a good deal. I'd still barter him down on the price though. The biggest problem with ads like these are that "running when parked" could mean that it was running on one cylinder and the piston slap in the others was getting so bad that he decided to park it or it could mean it just needs some carb work and it'll be fine.
Each bike is different and it generally goes that the bigger the bike, the bigger the problems. For $400 I would be expecting it to take a lot of work which would mean that you have to spend less time riding, more time wrenching, more money fixing, less filling your gas tank, etc.
In the end the decision is all yours. If you want it, go for it. I know that most, if not all, of the MBD (multiple bike disorder) sufferers on this site have paid what they knew was too high a price for something that they really wanted and may or may not have regretted it later. I've done it myself more times than I'd like to admit
and sometimes it comes out okay but sometimes you spend months of the riding season throwing money at a cursed old clunker that you kick yourself every day for buying.
Good luck! :woohoo:

it's sounds to me like the carb's will be crap and i'd be wary of stator problems if there is a charging system problem the motor has to come out of the frame in order to fix it. a real big headache if you haven't done one before take a booster battery and some fresh gas and a volt meter so you can check the charging system. especally if this bike has a bunch of extra lighting on it.

Still in the making, I am going to take a look at it Thursday, I love KZs but also like to tinker so I thought a Honda Goldwing would make good tinker toy. The KZ need minimal work. But when it comes down to it, KZ FIRST Honda Last.

GW's are tough old hosses. One of the first to truly be 100,000 mi machines. Slow but locomotive and dependable. Warm your ankles both summer and winter not to mention fan backwash. In some ways very easy to work on and in some a nightmare. But a bike that can eat up miles without angering the hemmeroid gods. You should see some of the GW customs that have been built.

If you can't get it running or it costs too much you could easily part it out for more than $400. Not much of a risk....Russ

It's worth $400 unless it's really junked out. They really ran pretty good, the 1000s and 1100s were nearly capable of running with a KZ1000 before add ons. That's where they get bogged down with the huge fairings and bags. I just love my 2008 Goldwing, but they are a whole different beast than the older 4 cylinder models. My dad had the new 1984 GL1200 and it was a "good" motorcycle. I would not call it a "great" motorcycle, had many more problems and was much harder to work on than my old KZ1000. I'd take my 5000-10000 mile trip every year on the KZ1000 and never failed to ride it home sucessfully. I always thought it was rather funny that my dad had this new GL1200, and my uncle had a new Yamaha Venture. They would take off on a 3000-4000 mile trip each summer and the funny part was one or the other always seemed to come home on a bus.
321,000 miles on KZ's that I can remember. Not going to see any more.

I dont think thats too funny If I buy this one and only get to ride it one way. .I might get it to tinker with and if it get to involved start parting it out. I dont have the means to buy a good one. But always wanted one. So I will do the penny fix methed, instead of neck streching methed, only to have it cut off later. . .
