kz1000g vs gs1100,gpz1100
12 Jul 2009 11:46
ive owned a 1983 gs1100e and 1983 gpz1100,and now i have a 1980 kz1000g(which im in the middle of switching to carbs).can someone tell me what i should expect in performance in comparison(all bikes were stock).my gs was really fast i've gone over 165mph.the gpz i never pushed that hard(i had 3 babies then i didnt want to crash and burn)what i read on the kz says its top speed was 130? is that right and what do i need to do to bring it up to the level of my old gs?

put the speedometer from your 83 gs1100e onto the kawi...it'll read incorrect just as well....

Well, the 1100E was a 16 valve head while the GPz1100 was an 8 valve head (as is the G model)...there was a performance advantage for the 1100E over the GPz...but I'm not sure you could easily bring the G model up to the level of the 1100E

Don't know about a 16 valve head. Just buy some mild cams and do the carb conversion right with new boots and up the carbs to 34mm.
If you have a chance to get a regular head just clean the passages up.
The F.I. head should bring goo money on eBay. Roy

i had an 1100 suzuki and the 2nd gear felt strong and long compared to the 5 z's i had ridden up to that point...it was suprising how strong of a motor it was to me at the first few rides......but an early gpz with a header and running right was a darn strong bike too.....they are both blurs to a fencepost ,so, pick your poison....

ive had an 82 gs1100e many years ago and i have no doubts about its ability to smoke a stock 1000,i also had a 84 gpz 1100 with smoothbores and a header when they first came out.other than the fuel injection issues which is why i put carbs on it there was no comparison
you asked how they compared in stock form, and i just answered your question very simply!real nice feel better
