Yes. I knew when I saw it on the showroom floor in March, 1977. Unfortunately, it had a "SOLD" tag on it and the dealer was only alloted the one KZ650C1 in blue. I tried other dealers, and the only one that had the same bike pissed me off with a smartass reply of "it depends on how bad you want it" when I asked the price, so I walked out. I went back to the first dealler 2 weeks later and asked again if there was any way he could find another one for me. He still had the "SOLD" one there as the new buyer had not come back in to claim it, so he said what the hell and sold it to me, telling me he would give the other guy his deposit back if and when he came back in. I still have the bike and I think I like it even more now than 31 years ago when I bought it (if that's possible). Ed

I had several dream bikes and got most of them eventually. Got the 78 KZ650 new and always loved it, had a friend with the 77 KZ650 with the Lester mags and big bore and eventually got it for $600. Wanted a Z1 but decided I could better afford the 74 H2 for a cool $1000 back in 1979. Lusted after the KZ1000MKII and found one of them nearly brand new with 500 miles for $2000 in 1983. Others I dreamed of fell short of expectation, 1981 GPZ550, 1982 GPZ1100, Suzuki GS1100, Yamaha FZ750, FZR1000, FJ1200, Honda 750 interceptor, GPZ750, BMW R100RS, Kawasaki Concourse, Z1R-TC. All these I "thought" I dreamed of, but fell short, some shorter than others. They don't get any shorter than the FJ1200 with Z1R-TC a close second. Thankfully my dream bikes were back when no one else dreamed of them so they could be bought relatively cheaply. Never ever dreamed of a Harley all these years, except dreaming how nice it would be if they were not there.
321,000 miles on KZ's that I can remember. Not going to see any more.

I'd been looking for a 900LTD for maybe 10 years before I found mine. I'd owned other bikes while I was looking, but they were just fill-in's... something to ride until the right bike came along.
But once you get your dream bike, you need another to take its place.
So, I've been looking for a clean, stock, '77 KZ1000 for about 4 years now.

Okay, I confess.
A 1980 440 Ltd is my dream bike if only because of this ad that ran in the June 1980 issue of Cycle World:

As for my "dream" Kawasaki .... I would love to own a pristine 77 or 78 KZ1000 LTD only with a six speed gear box.

I scanned that one after buying the mag from eBay last year. I couldn't find a good enough copy on the 'net plus I have an original paper copy as well. :woohoo:
