The tank on the right could be a 76 900 LTD tank as it was smaller but it looks a lil' too small. GLuck!

The motor looks to be from a '78 A2. The wiring definitely needs some attention too. I don't want to get too wrapped up with this thing, but am already becoming a bit infatuated. Here's some pics of the engine mess, and of the two tanks it came with, can you guys i.d. them? Also, what's my best plan of attack on the wiring?

You'll have to do one or the either........wiring that is. The harness are different as well as stator/rotor wiring. Best to find a 79/80 motor and install it. Chain drive that is.

Well the first thing I want to do is to try and get the starter working so I can do a compression test as it feels a bit weak. I don't really know where to start here, I need a wiring diagram of both harnesses to start, anyone have a pdf of the two? How can I go about getting the starter working? And on another note, if I get this thing wired up and compression is good, I'm assuming I'll want pods with the 29mm carbs correct?

Zoo, how did you determine that the carbs are 29's? What are the identifying marks? Thanks. Troy341

Hello, Andrew, and WELCOME to KZR! :)
We're glad you're here! :cheer:

Kick starter is usually adequate to spin the engine over for a compression test. It's easier, but not essential, to first remove all spark plugs. And remember to hold throttle wide open during the testing, as carb slides should be fully raised. Keep kicking the engine over several times until the compression gauge maxes out.

Because the stock airbox is missing, pods are imo the most feasible alternative.

Many wiring diagrams are available right here on KZR. Go to the green ribbon toward top of screen. Point to "KZ Information" and then click on "Filebase." Select the year. Then select the model. Then scroll down to find a "Wiring Diagram" which may be downloaded.

Good Luck! :)
