Well I have busy stripping my engine. I used glass bead. It worked well but if I had to do it again I would use baking soda. I have spent all week cleaning and I'm still a little worried. But with that said I am witing to get some parts to finish assembling the bottom end. I have however finised painting my clutch cover, oil pan and I smoothed and painted my valve cover. looks pretty good.

Thanks I used Duplicolor high heat gloss black. I hope it holds up. It seems like it is thick. So hopefully its strong.

i think the key is to make sure that it is perfectly clean fist, then try to apply the paint as thin as possible. the thicker it is the easier it chips.
I sandblasted my parts, then washed them with thinner. after painting i found the chipped easy. so i blasted them and started over. as it turned out , the cheap thinner i used to clean them left a film, witch deterred the paints adhesion. the second go round i cleaned the parts with acetone. it worked well.
i used the Dupicolor satin black eng paint.

Oh so you used the same paint just different color. Is it holding up well? I used ppg grease and wax remover on all the pieces. I seem to have pretty good adhesion.

Thanks I have it torn down again I'm gonna finish the frame this week then that will be done. Still need to get the subframe welded up. Just trying to get cheap stuff out of the way so i can save some money for the motor bits. It's coming along pretty quickly. I am having trouble staying busy I just have all these loose ends that kinda overlap each other so it's tough trying to just get things finished.
Peace

well I reblasted my upper cases and tried to paint them tonight but the weather was messing with the paint I'll try again this weekend. So I moved on to mounting my rearsets. I have them half mounted I just drilled a hole then welded a nut over the top. the bottom will have a threaded plate made and welded to the frame. but heres some pics of it.

The metal you used for the structure under the seat; square tube? What specifically?

well I finished mounting the rearsets and made a tab for the brake res. What do you guys think about the heel guard? I am considering ditching them or making new smaller ones with speed holes drilled into them.

Yeah you kinda lit that fuse Terry. You asked if I was gonna make the subframe removable. I thought about it and figured I could just make tabs and weld them on. It was easier than bending and notching and welding tubing. It only weighs 6 ounces or less. Its coming along I'm gonna be building the engine this week.

well its been a while since I've updated this thread. so here it goes did some more wok on the fender done some work on the controls and did some work on the subframe so heres some pics.

oh yeah and I made some velocity stacks out of the rubber boots from inside the airbox. I cut the lip off and then coated them in some of that plasti dip stuff.

oh and I had to move the kickstand forward I used the one of the 82 frame as it was smaller
