I see more "Fish-eye" than "orange peal". Obviously you will never get the results from a can that you will from a gun, but the results from a can, can be made quite spectacular. 90% of your results depend on your prep work not on the actual paint job. The first thing NOW that I would do is to remove every bit of the paint you applied. And I mean EVERY BIT. Than as mentioned before SAND the factory finish or better yet strip it off, and than sand. You MUST make sure that the cleaner you use is 100% compatible with the paint and primer you use. Alcohol is only compatible with SOME Lacquers. Crylon is a Urethane Enamel. Alcohol is probably one of the WORST solvents you can use to clean a surface before painting. this tank was painted in my garage.

This lower fairing has what I would consider BAD "orange peal" also painted in the garage on a very hot day. Some of this orange peal vanished once the paint cured more completely. Normally I would have redone this part but the sides were OK and the scoop is so low that the remaining orange peal is hardly noticeable.

some people swear by Teflon additives like Slick-50, including my brother. I have been involved in vehicle repair most of my adult life, and I tried Slick-50 a couple of times many years ago and was not impressed.

It's a scam. Slick 50 has paid off like a slot machine in fines for false advertising charges brought by various states. It's BS.

TY very much, Bountyhunter. It seemed like an easy way to make a roaring tiger out of my purring kitten, per the advertising.

Hi Richard Head, Welcome to KZR. Good luck with your paint job. We\'ll be watching your posts.
Looking forward to seeing your paint job.

Hey Tony, thanks! I will show my paint job as soon as it\'s finished. Looks like several guys here go the low buck method. I like it. Who want\'s to spend big bucks on a paint job when you can do it yourself ?

FYI on Slick 50:

www.carbibles.com/additives.html

Slick 50 in $20M lawsuit, loses to FTC.

Blue Corral, the manufacturers of the Slick 50 engine oil additive, have been banned by the Federal Trade Commission from making claims about reduced engine wear, increased fuel economy and lower running temperatures in it's advertising in America. The Federal Commission found the company's claims of increased performance and reduced wear were unsubstantiated, and Blue Corral has agreed to pay upwards of $20M in damages to affected customers.

"Even a caveman with a spear can do it."...

Well I guess your statement is correct where we had a member here awhile ago who paints for a living, does wonderful work....

So with that said, if he could do it I guess you can as well... ;) Good luck, look forward to your images.

We miss the big lug....
