Hi All,
basic question, probably over thinking it, but I want to be sure,
1978 KZ1000 A2, measures 15-16V at the battery, @4000 rpm,  suspect not regulating, stator seems OK, ie not shorted,
if I were to replace the std separate rectifier and regulator with a combined unit such as FH0020A. using pre made connectors kit,
such as EBAY item number:174095830608
green plug not used,
the black wire will go to the -ve battery terminal
the positive(red)  will be via an inline blade fuse to battery +ve,
the pre-made connector kit I have has a 30amp standard size blade,
so should I just swop out the 30A for a 20A fuse?
thanks very much for any advice,
Stuart

The SH775 is a much better R/R than the FHxxx versions, because the SH775 is series type, and FH is shunt.  Series type R/Rs help protect the stator from over heat damage, by shutting off current when it's not needed.  Shunt systems run full current all the time.

Unfortunately, there are tons of fake SH775's in the marketplace.  You must be careful to verify SH775 is printed on the top fin.  Triumph makes a nice adapter harness, which is cheap, and better quality than those ebay connector kits.

As for running the power output straight to the battery, that is not prefered.  It's best to feed it into your main harness, and split the rest off to the battery.  I'm not familiar with your bikes wiring scheme, but see if you can hook it up like this.

And BTW, I have several real deal SH775's for sale that I've tested on my bike to make sure they work properly.  I don't have any harnesses, though.

Just FYI. The blue hyperlink doesn’t work so we can’t compare items. I think it’s mute though as what Nessism is suggesting is a great upgrade. I have yet to do it but several have and it works great. Here a link to a harness you can modify.
