Hey Guyss!!

I have a 1981 KZ 750 Four Carb and I need to completely redo the harness but I would like to have it as a simplified harness. (Headlight, tail light, rectifier) I have not really done much with electrical besides fuses and the other basics. Does anyone have some advice on how to go about or start this process for a Newbie? I have a simplified wiring diagram form Google but it looks like calligraphy! Thanks in Advance!!!!

Get a ratcheting crimper for open barrel terminals. they are stock-type & are very strong.
CycleTerminal.com has a pretty good selection of wiring products for motorcycles.
Z1Enterprises.com is another place --- I get most of my maintenance stuff from Z1Ent. air filters. oil filters. etc.
Here's a topic with a bunch of wiring diagrams provided by kzrider loudhvx.

Connectors ... Wiring Harness Sleeve Tubing, Sheathing Loom

ECT 005 open barrel crimper & ET120/123 terminal pin extractor tools

Motorcycle Harness Connector covers handy for the reg-rec connector as it can get dirty from the rear wheel.

If you were like me a complete novice I'd start on an old thumper, say and 80's XL250 or 125. They are basically an ignition system and a charging system. The loom/harness is about as simple as you can get. However, firstly you would do well to firstly understand how electricity works. For example AC, DC resistance etc etc. IMO if you don't understand the very basics you'll be pissing in the wind even on the very basic loom/harness :)

I have not really done much with electrical besides fuses and the other basics.

maybe better repair / partially rewire the original loom than butchering it.

Apart from the fuel guage, sidestand safety and any spare accessories wiring it seems most of the electrics you'd want to keep for road use anyway?

Good point. I was planning to strip my loom down to the basics on my build but in the end I thought' Why bother?' I just tweeked it a bit to get where I wanted (swapped the American switches over to European so I could have an 'on/off' for the headlight and got rid of the (pointless) running lights, dumped the hazzards and wired in the 'Pass' switch.) That was it. So, a bit of chopping and changing but the main loom stays pretty much intact.
