That is why your speedo is sealed with that blasted crimped ring. To prevent you from getting in there and setting the odometer back. If the ring is tampered with one shouldn't trust the mileage.
I took mine apart because the lens was so dirty on the inside and I wanted to clean it. I assume a previous owner power washed the meters forcing water and perhaps soap under the lens.

It is against federal law to reset the speedo but WGAS.

It was suggested use a drop of Krazy glue. I just pushed it back on. Got it a little off, tried to take it back off, it was on there and I said FK it.
