And then there are present owners.
Like me.
I've rebuilt mine using the stuff everyone else has thrown away when possible.
I do run new tires, breaks and batteries.
I'm Mad Maxing the rest.

Pity that relay isnt a 2 pin Zaddict - have a spare i cant give away - the Zephyr 3 pinners are much harder to find - used anyway. 2 pinners blow the fuse on a 94 model. There is 3 pin on ebay at the moment
- $40 - $50 here new - not too bad.

Don't get me wrong the nice bikes are well nice.
Mine is a low cost gasoline powered tinker toy set.
There is nothing like standing away from the bike and listening to the chrome polishers look at it and go "What the F*%$??". Then they get on their Geezer Glides and ride away.

The shiny and bright ride brings out the thieves and personal paranoia. Screw that. I wanna ride and not worry when I stop...plus HATE polishing bright shiny things. B)

On the other hand the potential thief may realize that he will catch a bullet if he screws around with the shiny bike. ;) Ed

I have a Z1, it's a thief/flake magnet. All bikes are but the Z1/KZ's are worth $$$ to these bastards on eBay. I don't spend a lot of time polishing as my bike will show. I'll just ride up to those cute little jail baiters in bathing suits, give them some polish and watch them go at it. A trip down memory lane, giving to a good cause and a clean and bright, shiny bike. Good for another year.
What a drag it is being old. (Stones) :(

Wear and tear on the metal, paint, and chrome are simply a testament to a bike fully enjoyed. Every blemish on my bikes remind me of a ride enjoyed. Why erase those memories? I do the best I can to keep up my bike's appearance but the occasional scratch, dent or surface rust doesn't bother me much. I only wash mine when I'm about to work on the mechanics and only then because it makes the wrenching a more pleasant experience and keeps the dirt out the internal mechanisms. I really don't care if my repairs look like repairs. I care if the repairs work and will last. In fact, I think low cost well done obvious repairs improve the bike's appearance.

Sure, when I sell a bike I won't get as much for it as those that love to paint, polish, and re chrome, but I didn't put as much into the bike. Also, my old bikes make great projects to those that do love to paint, polish, and re-chrome. Why would I deny them their pleasures?
Nothing lasts, nothing is finished, and nothing is perfect.

Any anger goes away when I'm in the wind. The last post was positive. The only regret I have is letting Bossie sit for 15 years but when I think about it, she would have 15 more years of wear on her. It's all good.
Thanks
Steve
