I'm doing a quick throw down on a freshen up to get going for Sundays relay meetup. I've got a welded MK2 crank ready to go in and I know I need to change my rotor and stator but what else? If it's too involved I'll weld the 900 crank and stick with what I've got but if it's a simple upgrade I'll go with the MK2 crank. Need to know quick so If anything needs to be ordered I can get it on it's way for Sunday's ride.

THANKS!

Les

Maybe a combination reg/rec if you have the parts handy B)

Hi,Les.
Mk2 crank (16t) will need matching mk2 (32t) cam sprockets also as opposed to the 900's 15/30 combination.
Bad things will happen to the valves otherwise.
Apart from the stator/rotor and cover change as you already mentioned that's all is needed.

Got the cam sprockets all ready, all this stuff was for another motor but circumstances are prompting me to hustle up and make it happen and looking for the shortest time frame to be up and going without sacrificing quality. Believe it or not I'm allready setting the trans in and if it's a simple deal to change to MK2 charging I'd be buttoning up the bottom end tonight.
I'm looking to see just how fast I can get the combo regulator/rectifier shipped to me. Just getting the motor in and fired will set me at ease. I can wire up simple things pretty quick.
Thanks for the heads up, lot of people don't know these kind of things.

The taper on the end of the crank is different. You will need a Mk2 stator/rotor and matching alternator cover. Other than that and what was already mentioned - the matching cam sprockets (and a 124 link cam chain), it's a fairly easy swap.

Well then, I'll see if my buddy still has the rotor and stator, allready have a new cover. I'll buy a new regulator/rectifier, Z1 ships damn quick so it shouldn't be an issue. ;)

YOu shouldn't need a new reg/rec - although a newer generation one won't hurt...

Both the old Z1/KZ900 stators and the Mk2 stators are three wire.

I was just thinking as long as hes improving stuff it would be nice upgrade, reliability wise anyway. B)

I might have an extra ltd cover, not sure of condition though.
well scratch that idea, the one I have on garage wall is dohc style,no scratches though just needs a good buffing if somebody needs it. B)
