I installed the MarkII engine into the "77" KZ and the wiring from the stator is diffrent. The wires coming out of the Mark II are all yellow and the wires coming out of the KZ are sky blue, yellow, and pink. They have a blue connector.

How can i wire the yellow wires into the blue connector? Thanks Roy

Go one step farther and get a solid state combo reg/rec unit and wire the three leads from the stator to the three leads on the combo unit that are the same color. Most combo reg/rec's use red or orange as the positive and black or green as ground.

You need to look at both schematics to see what's what.

The wires coming out of the Mark II are all yellow

I would guess that means those wires are interchangeable elctrically, and I would GUESS they are the AC wires from the generator field winding going to the rectifiers. That's what they are on mine.

Don't know about blue, yellow and pink.

On the old bike the old wires go into the regulator and on the newer engine they go into the regulator/rectifer.

Thanks all for the answers. Roy

the mark11 charging system is 3 phase with a permanet magnet set-up the early kz's had a single phase alternator the two regulators won't be compatible

you should be able to get away with just the regulator

Roy, I am pretty sure that the blue, pink, yellow scheme is identical to the yellow, yellow, yellow. Get you a cheap Harbor Freight multimeter and check the three legs off the stator to be sure. With the bike running, you should see about 40 VAC on any combo of the legs just like the yellow wired stators.

Fully charge the battery and like WG said, start the bike with the wiring from the stator to the rec/reg disconnected take the engine to 4k.

On my 82 GPZ1100 B2 I get about 50 volts A.C. so watch out about shocks. Get a helper as holding a multimeter to the output plug and reving the engine will be a bit much. You need to measure all three legs of the three phase output.

On the schematics I've seen, some show the 3-phase stator to have yellow, pink, and blue, while others show three yellows. The yellow, pink, and blue was for the older regulators that needed to have the phases in proper sequence for the reg to work properly. If you just use a modern reg/rec, the sequencing won't matter. Just run the three yellows to a modern reg/rec and you should be fine.

Thanks for all the input. I have had several people to pm me and offer advice and that all helps.

I use to have a good job until UPS bpouht the company and fired every one and i would just hire the work done as i didn't have the time to. Now i got to use my brain and that could be dangerous. Roy
