Is there a switch on the left handlebar control that says Hi and Low?

un_Love, if you have the '83 KZ750-4 LTD chain drive this is the Kawasaki handlebar diagram. See the left side switch gear assembly.

You should find a Hi/Lo Switch but not ON/OFF Switch. If not, a PO has changed something on this bike.

Best of success.

Ah, I see. Must have a burned out low beam, then. Thanks for the advice, and the community here seems great.

Will upload pics of the bike later today.

If your bike has the reserve lighting device it will automatically switch to what ever lighting beam has not burned out. I.E. if low is out or hi is out it electronically selects the other good filiment.

It's a small box with six wires going to it usually on the left side below the seat.

well, i wasn't aware that the switch was a low/hi, assumed it was on/off. first bike, like i said. :) no light at all in the other position.

another stupid question, i suppose.. maybe i should start another thread..

is the brake light supposed to engage when the front brake is applied? because mine only works on the rear brake..

sorry, i'm a first timer. also can't figure out how to use the kick start. it's a fun learning process, though.

pics attached, as promised. seat's rough, and paint's faded, but clean as hell otherwise. runs like a demon.

If there is a switch controlling the brake lights (other than the right foot pedal) it would be in the right lever housing next to the master cylinder for the front brake.

When the lever is pulled back you should hear a click from the switch(the previous owner may have removed the switch)

As for the kick start lever operation, turn on the gas, make sure the transmission is in neutral, pivot out the kick start lever, apply a little choke, and step firmly and rapidly on the lever. It might take a few kicks to start the bike, but if it is good tune no more than three or four to get it running.

un_Love, you may only need a new light.

The rear light should come on when the front break in is used. If not, troubleshoot the pressure switch and or associated wiring.

To use the kick starter turn the fuel petcock ON/PRI, put the choke ON, go into neutral, do not touch the accelerator, do not pull the clutch lever in and then crank the engine. It should now start. Do not leave the ignition switch ON when the engine is not running as this may over heat your coil(s).

Seat is no problem. Seat covers are available from Saddleman and others for most models. I got mine through Z1 Enterprises. What a difference.

Best of success?

PS
I was just in Littleton and Golden last week. Nice riding area.
BTW, check under your seat for the original Operator's Manual. Also, get a Service Manual... you will need it and you'll thank yourself.
