Howdy folks,

I've been putting my 1980 KZ650 E1 back together this fall, and i've run into another issue. I have a complete loss of power. No lights, horn, starter, nothing.

The wiring harness was all disconnected when i got it so i've hooked everything back up (according to the diagram) to the best of my knowledge. I felt pretty confident about it until i tried to see if i had power. . .

- i know the battery is good (plus i hooked it up to a jumper and still nothing).

- the harness looks pretty crappy, rusty, and cobbed in some parts (sprayed with cleaning solvent already)

- checked fuses, seems to be fine.

- tested my regulator/rectifier, seems to be fine.

i took the headlight apart to see if everything was connected up there, and here's what it looks like inside:

(the white and blue wire here seems to have been cut? . . .)

whats this guy? it looks like it says "amp"

i'm working on getting a new wiring harness for my bike. the closest one i've found is from a 78' kz650 C. do you think that would work for me? what do you think the main problem is?

Thanks for any help.

I think you are going to need to start at the battery and work forward from there, checking voltage at all the connections and switches, it could be as simple as a bad ground, to several issues,
Its going to be a slow process.
That looks like a capacitor of some type, not sure what is for either

I had this happen to my bike once, turn the key on and nothing. It turned out to be a loose fuse in the box under the seat. It looks like you may have some other issues with the cut wires though.

A new harness (or a good used one) will be the best way to figure this out. Try the motorcycle salvage yards and another place to try is at these websites:
