Hi Guys, wonder if someone could enlighten me here please?
When I bought my 500, it had a rectangular headlight on it,[from a gpz I think].
I decided to put a standard circular one on and bought one from fleabay off a SR650.
Now this headlight bowl[the back part]has 2 cable entries cut out and it occours to me that rain will find its way in the upper of the two.
My question for you 650 owners in particular is:
Is this normal?
Oh, and will the rain piss in?
All answers gratefully accepted.:)

Since its a sealed beam I wouldnt worry about rain. Make sure the wires are taped up good.

Thanks NickW900LTD.I'm concerned because there will be a lot of wires in there,[I'm re-creating the origional harness from scratch]and there's nowhere for water to exit the enclosure.
In this reconstruction,I'm using bullet connectors on everything because I can't find origional multi connectors.
That means a LOT of wires, last thing I need is water in the mix.
Plus it looks an unwise design feature.
This machine is [hopefully]going to take me long distances, I need to know that I've covered everything possible.
Thanks again for your help.B)

I have two '650s and neither has a second hole. The bucket on each has a hole below the centerline that is mostly filled with wires.

Unless it had something to do with being off a European model?

Yep, Denmark calling. My 77 650 headlight has one hole too, it's circular and below the centerline. I'm no expert on the SR (D) models, but looking at the pic in your post I believe some po modified the lower hole and added the second (upper) hole. Definitely not stock, Euro model or not.

Many of the larger bikes have two holes. Make sure there is a rubber grommet on the edge of each hole as they will eventually saw your wiring in two otherwise. FWIW: Z1enterprises.com can sell you a black headlight shell and the lens part. The sealed beam is a real poor idea, imho. I use the aftermarket H4 type bulbs in a non-sealed beam set up... the Ultra White 55/60 are real bright and have a nice wide beam. If you don't see this stuff at Z1E, call Rob next week and ask him. If he acts like he hasn't heard of this stuff, I can give you specific part numbers off line. Last note... if you have a new headlight shell, you might want to repaint the inside good as they do tend to rust from the inside. wg

OnkelB,Thanks for the input, the outside edges of the holes have clearly defined raised mouldings so I think they're meant to be there.
MFolks, thanks a lot:) got my eye on one at the momentB)
wiredgeorge, its black shiny plastic construction so won't need paint. Not a sealed beam, bulb is removeable.
Thankyou for the tip concerning grommets, there are none.I think maybe I'll have to fashion grommets from soft rubber and glue in place,or possible see if all the cables will fit in the lower hole and block off the other.
Decisions,decisions...
Thanks again GuysB)
