I am 'restoring' a 78 KZ750B and am wondering if anyone has replaced the insturment light bulbs with LEDs? If so what LEDs did you use?
Thanks!

Type in "LED Instrument bulbs" in the search box and the results may answer your question. My copy/paste did not work... ;)

I was going to do that but I decided that the LED bulbs would be too difficult to see in sunlight (unless you expose them directly, not through the colored plastic). And, probably not worth the expense. I just buy... what is it, 1440's or something? Or 1428's? Whatever they are, they are just typical auto instrument lamps from the auto store for a few bucks.

Any "LED bulb" that installs in a socket is an LED assembly into a brass lamp base with a dropping resistor built in. That isn't cheap to make, the Luxen 3W LED "bulbs" cost about $25 each now. They are worth it because they save about 15W of power dissipation each. For the small 3W instrument lamps, it's not worth the cost to do it. Just buy a bunch of bulbs. Mine never wear out anyway.

Thanks for the suggestions and comments. I didn't realize that the LEDs didn't 'show' well through plastic. With the tach and speedometer and indicaters taking 10 blubs as well as not being particular easy to change one I had figured that LEDs would be the way to go with my rebuild.
