TOPIC:

I was re-installing the coils on my '84 550Ltd and am a bit confused on which wires go where. I had the wiring written down when I took them off, but that was over a year ago and the paper has been misplaced. Plug wires are not an issue, but the feed wires from the harness are. My Clymer book says the green goes on the left, and the black goes on the right coil, but it says the 2 yellows can go on either the + or -?? I don't understand this as I always assumed that there was a polarity issue on these.

The yellow/red wires go to the positive terminals of both coils if they are marked. Supposedly some coils work better when they have a particular polarity.

Thsnks for the info. Books sez polarity doesn't matter but it just didn't make sense to me when the coils are marked for polarity.

OK, I hooked them up and hit the button... motor started making this strange rumbling sound.... That was the correct hookup. Now to the insurance office and licence bureau and I'm off to terrorize the motoring public once again.
