Hello fellows kz owners, my name is Nick and I am new to the site of KZrider.
I have been given a free 1981 Kawasaki KZ750 from someone on Craigslist. I am very new to work on a real motorcycle, since I am already good on working on cars and mini bikes.

When I got the bike home, it looked good from the outside for a free motorcycle, but inside, the electrical system is the only part of the bike is messed up. I took off the gas tank of the bike to get a better view of the bike, everything is messed. The ignition switch wiring is chopped off, main wiring system where is the battery is at is all taped on and off some wires are sticking out, few large cables are out of place, and the fuse box is empty where is there no fuse and wires.

So my question is is there a wiring diagram for my bike online, or even a simple picture of the wiring diagram?

All thanks for any help.
Nick.

Thanks alot steell! I been looking around for this kinda stuff. I did noticed they have different model there, if I use the diagram for my bike and it for a different model will it still works? I asked this because I have no idea what model is mine, and the only one for the year they have is a E2. Do anyone think it will work if my bike is a different model than E2?

Again Thanks!

Look on the neck of the frame and find the vin# stamped into it. According to the factory shop manual the 750 E2 frame #s begin with KZ750-012001 or JKAKZDE1[]BA013722. Hope this helps.

Thanks everyone,
The wiring diagram helped me out, my bike is a JKAKZDE1 so it a E2 model. Thanks to KZErider.

While messing with this bike, now I know the motor still turns, which is great! But I am only hot wiring the system. I tried to get it running but it did not ran but cranks. I checked to see if there spark coming out of the plugs. No spark while cranking.

Any one knows the possible issue for a bike that been sat for years?

That's the link I posted, except mine is to the main page

Since the wiring has been cut, spliced, and just generally screwed with, by someone that shouldn't be allowed near a wiring harness, it's going to be tough to diagnose a specific wiring problem.

Study the wiring diagram until you understand how everything is wired, then start checking the wiring between individual points.

It's less complicated than it first appears to be :)

Hot wiring the system?

Do you have 12 volts and a good ground at the igniter?

I did grabbed a car battery, and use the wires to the starter relay the thing turns which is good. There no fire or spark happing. The starter relay is only turning the motor or it not the right area to start up?

Boy the wiring diagram is a big thing to study, but it the only way there a will. I thank you guys for the website you showed me. It helped alot.

Originally, the 12 volt supply to the coils also fed the igniter, so if you hook a jumper direct to the coils then you ought to have spark.

This might be the duh question but I had to ask, which is the coil? There are two that go to the spark plugs, there are the other two near the battery.

Steel is referring to the two that go to the spark plugs.
The other two you mention are probably your solenoid and your flasher unit.
If I'm wrong I'll soon know it.:woohoo:
