My girlfriend lost the mailbox keys, which also had my only motorcycle key on it. I called a local dealer up and they said that I need to bring in the ignition and title... I got the title but how the heck do I remove the ignition?
The bike is a 1980 kz440ltd

From looking at pics of a few 440s, I would think the ignition comes out with the idiot light as one assembly. Try removing it in that manner. You can probably seperate the gauges from the dash panel before removal, should simplify things.
I know it would not be any fun if it was easy, but does it have to be this much fun?

Look for the key code.
On older kz's it's either on the Ignition or seat lock, right beside the keyhole.
With this number, I or another Locksmith can cut a key.

Not sure of your model, but there may not be a number, or it may be on the back of either lock.
Manufacturers got a little smarter over the years reguarding having the key code visible to anyone.

On mine, you unscrew the plastic ring around the hey hole. Then lift the instrument panel cover off and you can get at the ig switch. I think the connector for it is inside the headlight assembly so you have to pop the headlight out.
