Status:

Left blinkers not working. If I turn on the right blinker it work fine, then when I switch the left blinkers on, I hear it make 1 dink sound, maybe 2, 3 or 4 but no lights come on and then the rely stops making any sound at all.

I check the switch and there is power.

I replaced the flasher relay, but one of the leads that connects to the flasher is broken.

THe back piece of the lead came off. Is his my problem?

Any suggestions would help.

Swap bulbs with the right side, as you know they work.
Fix that lead to the relay.

If your using modern turn signals, not old Kawi ones, you'll need a modern electronic signal relay. You can get them for under $10 and they're a dirrect plug in.

If you're just talking about plastic backing coming off the lead, that's not a problem. Of course the contacting wiring and connectors must all be intact to work. You are replacing the right relay I assume? In 78 they had 2 flasher relays, one for hazards, one for blinkers.

In nearly all cases, the flasher unit is common to both sides: it is in the power line coming to the switch which selects left or right. If one side flashes properly, the flasher is good. The wiring through the flasher to the center of the switch is good. If it fails to flash on one side, it means there is not enough current load on that side to work the flasher, usually, a single blown bulb will do this. An open connection will too. If either bulb is not connected or doesn't have wire continuity, the flasher won't flash.
