oum = ohm

You don't want to run coils that are lower in resistance than what the rest of your ignition system is built to take, or you'll burn something up (I think the coils would go).

I'm afraid I couldn't find the resistance for your coils, but if I had to take a stab at it, I'd guess they're 3 ohms. Hopefully someone will come along and verify/invalidate that for ya.

That is correct -- 1978 KZ1000 has two coils. Each coil is a 3 ohm coil with dual plugwire outlets.

One of the coils (usually the one mounted on the bike's lefthand side nearest the shift lever) fires the outside plugs #1 and #4.

The other coil (usually the one mounted on the bike's righthand side nearest the rear brake pedal) fires the inside plugs #2 and #3.

The important coil characteristics are that each coil should be a 3 ohm coil with dual plugwire outlets.

Good Luck! :)
