hello, i have a 1978 kz1000 and the speedometer does not work, i got a new cable for it and it didnt fix the problem. I thought about removing the whole gauge cluster and putting on little bolt on speedo and tach. Has anyone removed the istrument cluster before or dealt with this stuff?

I'd surf ebay and the wreckers before doing that. You can usually find all kinds of stuff. I have seen at least three different tach/speedos for my bike (750 twin) which was made in much less volume than yours.

The kz1000 was the police bike so there were thousands and thousands of them running around, and speedos and tachs often are still OK in their old age.

You can also use a 140mph KZ650 speedo which are plentiful. Are you sure the speedometer is bad? You've spun the wheel and watched the cable at the speedometer spin? I've never heard of a speedometer quiting in all these years.
321,000 miles on KZ's that I can remember. Not going to see any more.
